A picture of an official meeting of Mamata Banerjee, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar with Amit Shah in February 2020 is being shared with a false claim that it is from a meeting conducted to discuss the upcoming West Bengal assembly elections.
An old image of Home Minister Amit Shah dining with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is doing the rounds on social media in connection with the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections.
A Facebook user Asif Khan shared the picture with a claim that "Discussion about Bengal elections during breakfast. But the blinds will call Owaisi the agent… Who is the agent of BJP, it will be time for you to see who all are eating food together? It is the time to understand, they are all the same people, they are fooling everyone by saying Owaisi is BJP's agent, first look then speak." ( Translated from Hindi )
The same picture is also getting viral on Twitter with the same claim.
In our investigation, we found that the viral claim is false. The photograph was taken in February this year when Shah met Banerjee along with chief minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan at Patnaik's home.
After doing the reverse image search, we found a news report published on February 29, 2020, in which the same picture was used. According to the report, the image is from a meeting of the Eastern Zonal Council (EZC), a forum of eastern states, chaired by the Home Minister and held at Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik’s residence in Bhubaneshwar.
.
The same image was tweeted by Naveen Patnaik on February 28, 2020, with a caption, "Such a pleasure having the company of Union Home Minister Amit Shah Ji, my colleague CMs, Mamata Banerjee, Nitish Kumar Ji and Union Minister Dinesh Pradhan Ji at Naveen Niwas. Had a wonderfully interactive time over some home-cooked Odia delicacies."
In conclusion, a picture of an official meeting of Mamata Banerjee, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar with Amit Shah in February 2020 is being shared with a false claim that it is from a meeting conducted to discuss the upcoming West Bengal assembly elections.
