Summary

An edited image showing Rohit Sharma's picture displayed on Burj Khalifa along with Mumbai Indian's logo is being shared with a false claim Rohit Sharma Is The 'First Cricketer' And third Indian After Mahatma Gandhi and SRK Whose Pic Is Shown On Burj Khalifa.

Recently, an image is doing rounds on social media showing Mumbai Indians' captain Rohit Sharma's picture displayed on Burj Khalifa after his team won the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL) title. The image is being shared with the claim that the first cricketer whose pic is shown on Burj khalifa.

A Twitter user named Sabari shared the image with the caption, "#RohitSharma Is The 'First Cricketer' And third Indian After Mahatma Gandhi and SRK Whose Pic Is Shown On Burj Khalifa."

Many other Twitter users and Facebook users are also sharing the same image with a similar claim.  The image was shared on a Facebook page with a caption, "Rohit Sharma is the first cricketer whose pic shown on Burj khalifa. It's not fake go and search on Google."

The Mumbai Indians beat the Delhi Capitals in the final on November 11 to clinch their fifth IPL title.

The truth behind the claim

In our investigation, we found this claim to false. The image that is being widely circulated showing Rohit Sharma's picture on Burj Khalifa is morphed.

With the help of a reverse image search, we found this image used in April 2016 article by Emirates24x7.com showing the Burj Khalifa tower being lit up blue to commemorate the 8th World Autism Awareness Day.

A comparison between the viral image (after increasing brightness) and the image from Emirates24x7.com makes it clear that the viral image has been doctored to include Sharma and the Mumbai Indians' badge.

On performing keyword, we did not find any credible news report or evidence of the tower being lit up to congratulate Sharma and the Mumbai Indians

We then checked Burj Khalifa's Twitter and found that the Burj Khalifa had been lit up in the colors of the Polish and Angolan flags on November 11 to commemorate the countries' Independence Day.

On November 11, Mumbai Indians posted a graphic on its official Twitter page that showed the team's name written across the Burj Khalifa, however, the image is a graphic, i.e, digitally made.

In conclusion, an edited image showing Rohit Sharma's picture displayed on Burj Khalifa along with Mumbai Indian's logo is being shared with a false claim Rohit Sharma Is The 'First Cricketer' And third Indian After Mahatma Gandhi and SRK Whose Pic Is Shown On Burj Khalifa.
