Fact Check: A video of a Maulavi being attacked for molesting a woman in Pakistan viral in India

  • Share

Summary

The video is from Pakistan and has no link to India.

On October 26, Dusshera Celebrations turned into horror in Bihar's Munger when violence erupted over the Durga idol immersion procession of Shadipur Badi Durga. Eighteen-year-old Anurag Poddar was killed and several were injured in the clash between locals and police.

Now, a message has surfaced on social media claiming that the mother of the Anurag Poddar passed away due to a cardiac arrest as she could not bear the loss of her only son.

A Twitter user named Saurabh Pandey shared a disturbing image of Poddar’s mother carrying his lifeless body in her lap, with his head split wide open with caption saying "The biggest burden of the world is a son’s coffin on a father’s shoulder. A mother could not bear the death of her young son. Mother of Anurag Poddar suffered a heart attack & died. I wonder how this killer Lipi Singh will redeem her soul. Family completely devastated."

The same message is also doing rounds on Facebook.

The truth behind the claim

The claim that Poddar's mother, Poonam Devi, passed away is a hoax. Though mentally devastated after the death of her son, Poonam Devi did not suffer a heart attack and is physically fine.

When we check online, we did not find any credible media reports online stating that Poddar's mother suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away. India Today contacted the bereaved Poddar family in Munger and Anurag’s father, Amarnath Poddar confirmed that the news is a hoax and his wife has not suffered a heart attack. “Anurag was our only son after four daughters. My wife is completely broken mentally, always crying. But she has no physical issues so far,” Amarnath said.

Hence, Anurag Poddar’s mother, Poonam Devi has not suffered a heart attack. The Poddar family has refuted the claim calling it a hoax.
