Summary

The news about the Tanishq store in Gandhidham, being attacked are false. Contrary to media claims, the store was not attacked by a violent mob. The store manager was also not beaten up. However, two people came to the Tanishq store in Gandhidham & demanded to put up an apology. The shop owner had fulfilled the demand but he was getting threat calls from Kutch.

Since the past couple of days, #BoycottTanishq has been trending on social media platforms, with various sections of the social media users calling out the jewelry brand for 'promoting Love Jihad'.

Following the uproar, Tanishq took down the advertisement from its social media handles and also issued a statement that reads- “The idea behind the Ekatvam campaign is to celebrate the coming together of people from different walks of life, local communities and families during these challenging times and celebrate the beauty of oneness. This film has stimulated divergent and severe reactions, contrary to its very objective”.

Amidst the huge row over the advertisement showing an interfaith baby shower, a report emerged that the store of jewelry brand Tanishq was attacked by a mob in Gandhidham town of Gujarat's Kutch district.

According to an Indian Express report, a mob of alleged Hindutva supporters reportedly barged into a Tanishq showroom in Gandhidham town of Kutch, abused its staff, and pasted a poster on its door which stated that Tanishq was apologizing to Samagra Kutch Jilla Hindu Samaj for its advertisement.

NDTV also presented a report claiming that a violent mob attacked the store and the store manager was forced to issue an apology letter, citing all the information to 'unnamed sources.'

Following this, a number of similar claims started doing rounds on social media. A Twitter user wrote, "Goons beat up the store manager at a #tanishq showroom for a secular #TanishqAd. Ironically, it happened in a place called Gandhidham. Shameful!"

However, all these claims turned out to be false.

A Twitter user @theskindoctor spoke to the store manager of Gandhiram Tanishq store and shared the voice recording of their conversation. When the user asked the store manager whether the store has been vandalized, the store manager replied that no such thing has happened. You can listen to the audio recordings here:
