No violent attack at Tanishq store in Gandhi, store manager also not beaten up: clarifies Kutch Police

  • Share

Summary

The news about the Tanishq store in Gandhidham, being attacked are false. Contrary to media claims, the store was not attacked by a violent mob. The store manager was also not beaten up. However, two people came to the Tanishq store in Gandhidham & demanded to put up an apology. The shop owner had fulfilled the demand but he was getting threat calls from Kutch.

In the backdrop of controversy over Tanishiq's new Ekatvam ad, showing an interfaith baby shower, screenshots of a tweet purportedly by Hindu activist and columnist Shefali Vaidya, who was among those asking for a boycott of the jewelry brand, went viral on Twitter.

A number of Twitter users shared a tweet ascribed to Vaidya claiming that she passed off imitation jewelry worth Rs 200 as a gold neckwear set bought from Tanishq at over Rs 1 lakh.

A journalist with The independent, Stutee Mishra shared the viral tweet attributing it to Shefali Vaidya.

A verified user Priyanka Chowhan was also one of those who shared the viral tweet.

However, the viral tweet showing Vaidya passing off imitation jewelry worth Rs 200 as a gold neckwear set bought from Tanishq at over Rs 1 lakh turned out to be fake.

There are discrepancies such as ‘@’ and letters ‘Y’ and ‘Q’ partially cut-off in the viral tweet which makes it clear that it is fake. Moreover, a single copy of tweet's screenshot is doing rounds on social media making it obvious that it is a photoshopped image.

Shefali Vaidya herself called out the people circulating the fake tweet and clarified that it’s ingenuine.

Many Twitter users later took down their tweets in which they shared the fake screenshot, mocking Vaidya for ‘lying’.

In conclusion, a screenshot of a tweet attributed to Shefali Vaidya claiming that she passed off imitation jewellery worth Rs 200 as a gold neckwear set bought from Tanishq at over Rs 1 lakh, is photoshopped. Vaidya has never tweet any such thing.
