An image showing the woman in the Goa Congress Press conference is being shared with a false claim that she is the Naxalite woman who claimed to be the Hathras victim's sister-in-law. The woman is seen in the image is Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) social media in-charge, Pratibha Borkar.
Recently, a controversy erupted when it came out that a woman was found to be living at the victim’s home and reportedly passing herself off as a family member. Amid this, several media reports and social media users started claiming that the woman who was living with the victim's family had Naxalite links.
The woman has been identified as 41-years-old Dr. Rajkumari Bansal, who lives in Jabalpur and is a lecturer at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College’s pharmacology department.
Following this, an image is being widely shared on social media platforms showing three men including Congress spokesperson Gaurav Vallabh and a woman sitting together at a press meet with a Goa Pradesh Congress Committee board in the background. This image is being shared suggesting that the 'fake Naxal bhabhi' was captured with congress members.
The image was shared on a Facebook page named 'The Right Voice' with a caption "The fake Naxal Bhabi who was hugged by Priyanka Vadra at Hathras Case Impressive Drama enacted by Priyanka Vadra."
Verified Twitter user Arun Pudur also shared the image saying, "Does anyone recognize this woman in Goa Pradesh Congress Meeting? If you do then you have solved #HathrasMystery."
A number of other users are sharing the image with the same claim.
In our investigation, we found this claim to be false. The woman is seen in the image is Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) social media in-charge, Pratibha Borkar.
With the help of relevant keyword searches, we found a Facebook live video by Indian National Congress Goa on September 29, 2019, with Borkar wearing the same outfit as in the viral photo.
Moreover, when we checked the Facebook profile of Borkar we found that the viral photo had been picked up from her Facebook cover photo.
A comparison between facial features of Bansal and Goa Congress leader Pratibha Borkar makes it clear that both are different people and their facial features do not match.
In conclusion, an image showing the woman in the Goa Congress Press conference is being shared with a false claim that she is the Naxalite woman who claimed to be the Hathras victim's sister-in-law. The woman is seen in the image is Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) social media in-charge, Pratibha Borkar.
