Summary

The news clipping claiming that the Rajasthan government has made it mandatory for all government offices, schools, and hospitals to have a portrait of Dr. Ambedkar is morphed. Rajasthan government has not issued such an order, instead, Uttar Pradesh issued the order back in 2018.

Recently, an image of a Hindi news report is being widely shared on Facebook claiming the Rajasthan government has directed all government offices, schools, and hospitals to have a portrait of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar is being circulated on social networking sites.

The news clipping was shared on a Facebook page named Bajrang Ambedkar with a caption, "This is the thing, say it friends, Jai Bhim."  The caption of shared with the clipping reads as "Rajasthan government has issued a written order for government offices to have a portrait picture of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar…"

The truth behind the claim

In our investigation, we found this claim to be false.

While analyzing the news report we found that 'Aaj Samaj Network' written which indicated that it is a clipping of Aaj Samaj Newspaper.

Moreover, nowhere in the article, the Rajasthan government is mentioned except in the dateline and we also did not find any news reports online claiming the same.

In our investigation, we found several news reports stating that the Uttar Pradesh administration had made it mandatory for all government offices in the state to have a portrait picture of Dr. BR Ambedkar from April 1, 2018.

According to a report by Hindustan Times (HT), published on March 29, 2018, the state government issued an order that Baba Saheb’s name should be mentioned as Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar in all government documents. Dr. Ambedkar’s picture has also been made mandatory at all government offices.

We also find the image of a viral news report shared by a Twitter user on March 23, 2018, in which the location 'Ghaziabad', UP, is mentioned. This report is in line with other reports that we found online.

Hence, the news clipping claiming that the Rajasthan government has made it mandatory for all government offices, schools, and hospitals to have a portrait of Dr. Ambedkar is morphed. Rajasthan government has not issued such an order, instead, Uttar Pradesh issued the order back in 2018.
