The viral picture of Deepika Padukone appearing before NCB wearing a black t-shirt with the slogan "I stand with Indian farmers" is photoshopped. The viral image is 2 years old while Deepika appeared before NCB on September 26 wearing a palazzo suit.
Recently, a video is getting viral on social media platforms showing an NDTV reporter rolling on the street in order to escape getting caught in a crossfire. The video is being shared to purportedly show that the man in the journalist is Senior Executive Editor at NDTV India, Ravish Kumar.
BJP leader Indu Tiwari shared the video on Twitter with a caption in Hindi that can be roughly translated to, "'Recognise this messiah journalist? He is that reservoir which gives sermons to the world on journalism. He feels that journalism of today is a joke. How are you Ravish Kumar?"
India TV journalist Shushant Sinha also shared the video with a similar caption that can be roughly translated to, 'Recognise this messiah journalist? Hint: He gives the world sermons on journalism'.
The 20-second-long video has been overlaid with a Bollywood song. A reporter can be seen rolling on the ground towards one side of the road.
A user named Satish Shukla shared the video on Facebook saying, 'He gives sermons on Arnab's journalism but look at Ravish Kumar's journalism'.
In our investigation, we found that the man in the video is journalist Fayaz Bukhari and not Ravish Kumar.
We found that the video has been culled from a video on Ravish Kumar shared by OpIndia. The first few seconds of the video show the same footage that's viral now.
The Hindi caption with the video uploaded on September 30, 2020 translates to 'Ravish ki Nayi Report: Bhojpuri Ravish 'Bakait Kumar's' report's season begins. We will discuss his Bhojpuri Live irrationality today'.
With the help of relevant keyword searches, we found a video uploaded on August 27, 2013, on NDTV's YouTube page under the title 'NDTV Bloopers 2006: Err, rolling?'.
We analyzed the comments on the video which suggests that the reporter is not Ravish Kumar but some Bukhari from Kashmir. When we searched on the internet we found the name of Fayaz Bukhari, an ex-NDTV journalist. The same video was shared on the Facebook profile of Bukhari in 2014.
The following comparison shows that that the correspondent holding the mic is not Ravish Kumar, but Jammu and Kashmir-based journalist Fayaz Bukhari.
Boom contacted Fayaz Bukhari who told us over the message that it was him in the video. "There was a Congress rally which came under fidayin attack in May 2006. I was doing live after it was over. And no one was knowing that one more militant was alive and was hiding nearby. All of a sudden there was heavy firing and I was in open doing live broadcast without any cover (Sic)," Bukhari told.
The journalist further added that the camera persons had taken cover and he was the only one who was exposed to fire. "I ducked and rolled to reach behind the other camera persons to get cover from direct fire. It was from Poloview near city centre Srinagar," he added.
An article in the Outlook Magazine from May 2006 also covered the suicide attack.
A keyword search led to a video by The Associated Press (AP) from the 2006 shooting incident in Kashmir. AP had uploaded a video of the incident on YouTube in 2015.
Below is a comparison of a screenshot from the AP video and the viral video.
In conclusion, the viral clip does not feature Ravish Kumar rolling on road but Jammu and Kashmir journalist Fayaz Bukhari who was trying to save himself from a terror attack.
