This video is being circulated on Facebook as well as on Twitter.

The truth behind the claim

In our investigation, we found that this incident indeed the incident indeed took place, however, it’s from last year. On December 22, 2019 a Wadala resident Hiramani Tiwari was roughed up and his head tonsured over a Facebook post.

With the help of keyword searches on Google, we found reports by several media outlets including NDTV, HW News English, and Republic TV.

According to The Hindu report, an FIR was filed against Shiv Sena leader Samadhan Jugdar and three others for unlawful assembly, rioting, assault, intentional insult to provoke breach of peace, and criminal intimidation under the Indian Penal Code at Wadala TT police station.

Reportedly, Mr. Tiwari, who works in the private sector, had put up a post about Mr. Thackeray’s statements likening the recent police action against protesting students to the pre-Independence Jalianwala Bagh massacre. The statement had angered local Shiv Sainiks, who gathered outside his house and forced him to come out, after which Mr. Jugdar shaved Mr. Tiwari’s head in full public view using an electronic shaver.

Maharashtra CM’s son Aaditya Thackeray wrote on December 24, 2019, “Law and order is a subject of police and shouldn’t be taken into anyone’s hands.”

In conclusion, a video showing Shiv Sena members assaulting a man for his post on social media from last year revived in the backdrop of a recent incident in which a retired navy officer was thrashed by Shiv Sena members over a social media posts.
