Fact Check: Truth behind the viral video showing Pakistani men uprooting trees

  • Share

Summary

The video showing Muslims uprooting saplings in Pakistan is being shared with a false claim that men uprooted saplings as planting trees is against Islam.

A video showing rainwater from a water-logged road entering into the low-floor bus is being shared widely on social media with a claim that the incident took place in Delhi and the bus belongs to DTC.

The Vice President of Delhi Congress, Abhishek Dutt shares a video with a claim that "Kejriwal Ji tomorrow morning what you will be promoting with full-page ads in newspapers? How to make pakoras with tea at the time of water logging due to the rain?". (Translated from Hindi)

Col DPK Pillay also shares the video using the caption "Nature at its best. Cruise along with like a motorboat in the heart of Delhi. Kerala in Delhi'.

Fact Check

In our investigation, we found that the viral claim is false. The video is from Jaipur, Rajasthan and not from Delhi

After doing reverse research of the image using keyframes, we found a longer version of the same video published on a Youtube channel name Cobrapost. It was published on 11 August 2020. The caption of the video reads "Water enters the low-floor bus during the heavy rains in Jaipur"

We also found a news report of Patrika published on 11 August in which the same video is posted as related to an incident in Jaipur.

However, rainfall caused waterlogging in several areas of the national capital on Thursday morning. Pictures shared by ANI showed waterlogging near New Delhi Railway Station and at an underpass in the Dwarka in the South-West part of the city.

In conclusion, the video showing rainwater from a water-logged road entering into the low-floor bus is not from Delhi. The viral video is from Jaipur, Rajasthan.
