  • Share

Summary

Priyanka Gandhi shared old images to show the current flood situation in Assam, Bihar, and UP. Both images shared by Priyanka Gandhi are old and nothing to do with the Flood situation in Assam, Bihar, and UP.

General secretary of the All India Congress Committee, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra recently posted two images on her Twitter, criticizing the handling of the flood situation in Bihar, Assam and Uttar Pradesh. Her tweet reads “Floods in many areas of Assam, Bihar, and UP have disrupted life. Millions are in crisis and we look forward to helping those affected. I appeal to the Congress workers and leaders to do everything possible to help those affected". (Translated from Hindi).

She also shared these two pictures on her Facebook page with the same caption.

Fact Check

In our investigation, we found that the images shared by Priyanka Gandhi Vadra are old and unrelated.

First Image

After doing the reverse image search on Google, we found the image used in a news report published on Oneindia on July 24, 2019, with the title "Bihar-Assam flood: Death toll mount to 174". As per the caption written along with the image, it shows a view of a submerged village, in flood-affected Morigaon district in Assam. The image is credited to news agency PTI.

Second Image

After doing a reverse image search, we found the second image in a news article published by Hindustan Times on August 31, 2017, titled, 'Google announces $1 mn for flood relief in India, Nepal, Bangladesh'. According to the caption, the image shows a villager carrying his belongings on a makeshift raft from a flooded village in Araria district of Bihar.

However, it is true that in Assam, there is no respite from flood fury. Over 70 lakh people have been affected due to Assam floods. According to ANI, at least 84 people have lost their lives in Assam due to severe flooding. As many as 108 animals including nine rhinoceroses have died at the Kaziranga National Park due to heavy floods. In Bihar, the flood situation remains serious as rivers flow over the danger mark.

In conclusion, Priyanka Gandhi shared old images to show the current flood situation in Assam, Bihar, and UP. Both images shared by Priyanka Gandhi are old and nothing to do with the ongoing flood situation in Assam, Bihar, and UP.
