An old video of a woman in Burqa being harassed by a group of men from Bangladesh is being shared with a false claim that RSS members are harassing the woman in India.
Recently, a video is being widely shared on social media platforms in which a group of men can be seen moral policing and harassing a burqa-clad woman on a roadside. The video is being shared with a claim that the men harassing the woman belong to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). You can watch the view here:
A Twitter user named Abhay Yadav shared the video with the same claim.
The video is being shared on Facebook with the same claim.
In our investigation, we found that the video is not from India but from Bangladesh.
With the help of a reverse image search by extracting the keyframes of the video, we found this video uploaded on a Bangladeshi channel on YouTube in 2018.
In the video clip, men can be heard asking the woman in Bengali that Where is your home? In Teherkat? Which place in Tekerhat? Tekerhat is an area in Madaripur District, Dhaka Division, Bangladesh.
A longer version of the video was uploaded on a Bangladeshi Facebook page in July 2019.
However, we were not able to verify the year when the video was shot.
In conclusion, an old video of a woman in Burqa being harassed by a group of men from Bangladesh is being shared with a false claim that RSS members are harassing the woman in India.
