Film actor Ajaz khan share a picture of a man standing with a rickshaw with the claim that his name is Kaleem who runs a rickshaw in Lucknow and the Uttar Pradesh government fined him 21 lakhs for his involvement within the protest towards the Citizenship Amendment Act.
Ajaz Khan tweeted a picture with a claim that "Kaleem a rickshaw-puller was fined Rs 21 lakh,76 thousand by Yogi government in Uttar . If Kaleem??????? failed to collect the recovery, he has been arrested and sent to jail, now BJP workers and CM hs adopted a policy attitude, be ashamed"
The viral post recived 1,800 likes and 675 retweets at the time of writing this article.
The same picture is also getting viral on Facebook a user name Safina Sahiba share the same picture with a caption "The person ,identified as kaleem, who runs a rickshaw in Lucknow. The UP government imposed a fine of Rs 21 lakh and put him in jail by accusing Kalim of bringing the people joining the CAA campaign on a rickshaw. Neither will able to pay 21 lakhs nor can he ever see the world outside the prison now."
In our investigation, we found that the viral claim is false . The name of the man who is seen with the rickshaw is not Kaleem but Uttam Kumar Singh, who lives in Delhi and was providing free rickshaw rides to the common people during lockdown.
After doing reverse image search on Google, we found a news report of The Hindu in which the same picture can be seen.The image is captioned as ‘Uttam Kumar Singh outside Moti Nagar metro station’. According to the article published on on April 3, 2020, The rickshaw-puller,identified as Uttam Kumar Singh who was standing outside Moti Nagar metro station, and help those who don’t own their rickshaws and have taken them on rent are not being asked by the owners for money. He did not charge money keeping in mind the situation due to the ongoing lockdown. Uttam Kumar Singh lives in Kirti Nagar, Delhi and has 7 people in his family.
Conclusion, we found that a photo of a Delhi rickshaw driver is being shared on social media with the claim that the Uttar Pradesh government fined him Rs 21 lakhs fine for ferrying anti-CAA protesters is false. He providing free rickshaw rides to the common people during lockdown.
