Amroha police have clarified that there is no caste angle in this case. The victim was murdered for a dispute over the monetary matter.
Recently, a disturbing video of a young woman getting brutally thrashed by three men has surfaced on social media platforms with a claim that a Dalit girl in UP who took water from a well used by upper cast Hindus was violently attacked by some men.
A member of Parliament of the United Kingdom, Nazir Ahmed shared the video two-minute video on Twitter saying, "Violent attack on a Dalit girl in UP India who took water from a well used by upper cast Hindus. India is being shamed by such violence against minorities. Indian Government must stop these attacks and prosecute these criminals."
At the time of writing this article, this tweet has been reshared over 3000 times.
Another user shared a small clip of the video saying, "A Dalit girl in UP who took water from a well being tortured by village men, serious action to be taken on the stupid."
This video is viral on Twitter with a similar claim.
This video was uploaded on a YouTube channel with a title, "Lower Class (Dalit) girl tortured for taking water from an upper class well."
The same video was also uploaded on Facebook two weeks ago with a caption Bengali asking people to make this video viral. This video was also shared about 100 times.
Many other Facebook users also shared the video two weeks ago.
In the video, one can see three men taking turns to thrash a helpless girl in the presence of other residents. She was first flogged hard with a stick by one of the men with another one holding her. Then, the other two men also brutally punch the girl on the face and back.
In our investigation, we found that the video is from Gujrat and the claim that a Dalit girl was thrashed by men in UP for taking out water from a well used by the upper caste people is also FALSE.
While analyzing the video, we noticed that the language used by the people in the video is not similar to what is normally spoken by people in Uttar Pradesh.
With the help of a reverse image search on Yandex after extracting the keyframes of this video, we found that one of the keyframes of the video used in an article published by News18 on May 27 titled "Gujarat: Minor Tribal Girl Brutally Thrashed for Eloping, Video Goes Viral."
As per the report, on May 21, a 16-year-old girl from a remote village in Gujarat's Chhota Udepur district was thrashed by three men in the presence of her father and local residents for eloping with a man a few days ago.
Deputy Superintendent of Police A V Katkad revealed that the minor girl had eloped with a man and went to a village in neighboring Madhya Pradesh. The three men were angry with the girl as she had eloped with a man recently, something which they think brought disrespect to their community.
The video was recorded by the villagers witnessing the incident, who then uploaded it to social media following which, it caught the attention of police.
Reportedly, an FIR has been filed against 16 men including 3 main accused Desingh Rathva, Bhipla Dhanuk and Udelia Dhanuk, at the Rangpur police station after taking a formal complaint from the 16-year-old victim's father.
Gujarati news portal, NavsamayGujrat also published a report on the incident.
In conclusion, a video from Gujrat where a minor girl was brutally thrashed by some men for eloping with a man is being widely shared with a false claim that a Dalit woman was thrashed by Upper caste men in Uttar Pradesh from taking out water from a well.
