Summary

A report attributed to Dainik Jagran that the Bihar Health Department has found Coronavirus in poultry chicken samples is fake. No such test has been conducted on chicken samples.

In the backdrop of coronavirus pandemic, a newspaper clipping is doing rounds on social media with a claim that the Bihar Health Department has found Coronavirus in poultry chicken samples.

A Facebook user posted this clipping on April 15.

The report has a headline, "Bihar Health Department's confirms coronavirus after retesting of poultry hen" (Translated from Hindi)

According to the article, Bihar Health Department on Saturday 10 am collected samples of poultry hen from at several places and sent them to Patna for testing where a poultry hen tested positive for coronavirus. The health department cautioned Bihar and other states saying people should avoid eating poultry hens.

The report has a masthead of Dainik Jagran, which is different from the original one and the date 'April 12, 2020' is mentioned was in English, despite it being a Hindi newspaper.

We further searched for this report on the online edition of the paper but did not find any of the articles. We also did not find any similar reports online.

Bihar Health Department has called the claim made in this report as fake and clarified, "On April 12, 2020, some newspapers reported that the coronavirus was detected by the Health Department in a poultry investigation - this is fake news and the State Health Committee denies it and warns that the facts should be published only after investigation." (Translated from Hindi)

The viral paper clip shows the dateline in English which is sufficient to prove the paper clip to be doctored. The date in the Hindi edition is mentioned in Hindi.

In conclusion, a report attributed to Dainik Jagran that the Bihar Health Department has found Coronavirus in poultry chicken samples is fake. No such test has been conducted on chicken samples.
