  • Share

Summary

The claim that a policeman was beaten for trying to implement a lockdown inside a temple is false. The viral video is from a play.

A video is going viral on social media about the ongoing lockdown due to Coronavirus showing some people beating a young man in the police uniform. It is claimed that the policeman asked them to follow the lock-down rules in the temple, but people beat him up instead of listening to him. You can watch the video here:

A Facebook user name Mohmmad Khan shared the video using the caption "Law getting beaten up in the temple. The policeman was beaten only because he was stopping people from breaking the lockdown in the temple. Will the police now take action on these people and especially ask Kejriwal to file an FIR. Where are you now Kejriwal? Where is Godi Media and where is everyone?"

The viral post received more than 1000 shares at the time of writing this article.

We also received a request to verify the claim.

Fact Check

In the investigation, we found that the video clip is actually from a play. The people seen in the video are wrestlers and artists.

In the search, we found the full video on YouTube on the verified channel named 'CWE', a part of which is being viral on social with false claims. This video was uploaded on 18 June 2019. CWE is a wrestling entertainment academy founded by WWE star The Great Khali near Jalandhar.

It is written in the video description, Singham Dubey interrupt Shastri while doing puja. In the video, the person seen in the police uniform is Manish Dubey. Many more dramatic videos of Manish can be seen on CWE's YouTube channel.

However, we found a news report of a case of an attack on policemen in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh. According to the report, when the police team was instructing people to follow the lockdown in a village, people attacked them. A sub-inspector and a constable were injured in this attack. Similar reports have come from different parts of the country but none of these attacks is related to any temple.

In conclusion, the claim that a policeman was beaten for trying to implement a lockdown inside a temple is false. The viral video is from a play.
